When an industry of 30 years is hit with significant changes to legislation, causing Volumetric Concrete Mixers to drastically reduce their payload from 40 plus tonnes down to 32 tonnes, compounded with additional administration, increased material costs and the doom of Brexit; many took the view that the industry was no longer viable or couldn’t be run in a profitable and professional manner, which in turn would lead to mass bankruptcies and the eventual demise of the competition to the drum mixer.
Not at Armcon! The company's in house CAD designers were immediately tasked with the unenviable challenge of delivering a brand new mixer to market, that could not only deliver fresh high-quality concrete but a sustainable business model as well.
The brief was quite clear “No Prizes for Second Place”. 8m3 of concrete compliant with axle weight regulations (AWR) all under 32,000 kg.
Following many sleepless nights, some swearing, screaming, blood, sweat and tears, Armcon are delighted to announce the birth of their new baby, named Dura-Light.
By incorporating modern high specification Hardox and Strenx performance steels, the firm has improved the structural integrity and durability, whilst considerably reducing the weight of the subframe and aggregate bins.
The next task for Armcon was the cement bin . They decided not to gamble with aluminium due to the risk of corrosive reaction, so they have invested in its own bespoke mould allowing it to fit a Rotational Moulded Polymer Cement Bin - again contributing to the weight loss.
A 15% reduction in water, redesigning the mixer wear blades, adding electric vibrators, improving the design of the auger, all contribute to shedding the pounds.
There are also a number of features that will increase uptime, using British and European metric components, which Armcon will be able to pass on considerable savings in the parts department.
The Dura-Light has the Armwatch system, as standard, which combines simplistic manual controls with precise monitoring software which allows its customers to view exactly where their fleet is and exactly what it is producing live.
Armwatch then creates personalised reports direct to your computer or mobile device wherever you are in the world.
