The University of Leeds is in the top 10 UK Universities for research power, with 80% of its research rated world-leading by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Our Robotics network brings together over 100 researchers working on field and infrastructure robotics, artificial intelligence, enabling technologies for autonomy in robotics, as well as medical robotics. As part of this, Leeds is currently leading the EPSRC Grand Challenge project ‘Self-Repairing Cities’, in partnership with Universities of Birmingham, Southampton and UCL. The project is developing robots that will identify, diagnose and repair street-works through minimally invasive techniques, working towards a vision of zero disruption from streetworks by 2050. In this exhibition, the team present and showcase an asphalt 3D printing drone designed to repair road cracks before they turn into potholes.
