Best Use of Technology - to include Digital Innovation

Technology is already essential to almost every aspect of the construction equipment sector, from machine automation to virtual reality. And in today’s world, technology has a more important role than ever before, as we strive to overcome skills shortages, improve productivity and make construction safer and more sustainable.

At the same time, our digital capabilities are advancing so quickly that what seemed impossible a year ago is normal practice today.

In this landscape it can be difficult to know which technologies will bring genuine and lasting benefits to the industry and the people working in it. This award recognises companies and individuals who have succeeded in looking past the hype and made the best use of technology or digital innovation to achieve real change or improvement.

The judges are not necessarily looking for novel technologies; the emphasis is on the use technology for the benefit of the industry.

Community Engagement Initiative

Every company and construction site has an impact on the community around it, and this award celebrates the initiatives that ensure that impact is positive.

Companies and individuals that engage positively with the community not only improve their own standing in the community, but that of the wider industry. This can have enormous benefits that reach beyond being seen as a good neighbour: it can generate a positive perception of the construction industry and equipment sector and encourage young people to consider a future career in construction, technology or engineering.

Community engagement can also have a very positive impact on the workforce, giving them the chance to share their knowledge and skills.

The judges are excited to see entries that demonstrate an ongoing and genuine commitment to community engagement by companies or individuals at any level.

We all know the impact an apparently small change can have – whether it is reducing single-use plastics or cutting down on waste.

The Environmental Champion award is for individuals who have achieved change that will make a real difference within their companies, on sites or in the wider community.

The judges are looking for people who have demonstrated an understanding of the challenge facing us all and have proved their commitment by championing an initiative or method of working.

Health, Safety & Wellbeing Initiative

The construction industry has made huge strides in safety in recent decades, but there is still more than can be done to protect workers and the public from the dangers of construction equipment and processes.

And, while many companies have understandably focused on making their equipment and activities safer, they are now realising the responsibilities they have for the health and wellbeing of their employees.

This award will highlight the important initiatives that are tackling the health, safety and wellbeing of people associated with the construction equipment sector. These may be initiatives aimed at ensuring workers are happy and healthy in their work or at transforming construction operations to make them safer.

Judges are looking for initiatives rather than products; the category is open to individuals, teams or companies; and it can be for an initiative aimed at any aspect of health, safety and wellbeing.

Security Initiative

Police resources are increasingly stretched by the pressures put upon them by criminal activity. The growth of cyber-enabled crime and online fraud has added to the more established forms of criminality found in the construction sector. This Award seeks to recognise security successes by companies that have made a difference in thwarting or deterring illegality in any of its many forms.

A security initiative could be a successful partnership with local law enforcement officers; the invention or adoption of a new product, programme or technique that has brought results; or, a training or publicity campaign that has improved your workforce’s or customers’ awareness of good practice in security matters. Any security-related initiative in construction that has made a difference can be considered for this new Award.
